Stay Organized With A 2 Drawer File Cabinet

A filing cabinet is a piece of office furniture that is helpful when used to store paper documents.  In this day of computers, copiers and fax machines you may think you will never need a filing cabinet, however, some papers such as receipts and tax documents must be kept in the original form.  Sometimes you only need a little storage area such as a 2 drawer file cabinet.  These cabinets are small and fit neatly into a small home or business office.  Office filing cabinets are typically made of metal or wood with sliding drawers for easy access.  The two most common forms of filing cabinets are vertical and lateral.

Filing cabinets are built in several sizes for your special needs.  A 2 drawer file cabinet can hold files that accommodate 81/2 x 11 inch paper or larger legal size files.  These small filing cabinets can fit neatly into a closet or under a desk.  These are usually all you need for a home office.  Many file cabinets have a keyed lock to prevernt unauthorized access to the files stored there.  The plunger lock allows the user to lock the file cabinets just by pushing the body of the lock.

The horizontal file was invented in 1886 and was used as a way to store papers to protect them from fire and accidents.  These were made of forged metal and came in a 2 drawer or the larger 4 drawer file cabinet.  The vertical file was invented in 1898 and revolutionized record-keeping.  In 1941 Seibels deposited on of the original file cabinets in the Smithsonian Institution to be on display at there request.  Businesses today are still copying paper and filing it even though electronic filing has improved the way business is done.  The 2 drawer file cabinet is sold mostly for use alongside a desk.

Lateral files are typically 20 inches deep and manufactured in several different widths such as 30, 36 or 42 inches.  They also come in 2 drawer or more versions.  The 30 inch wide, 2 drawer version in popular for use in a cubicle or workstation and can be sued as work surfaces as well.  Most lateral files, unlike vertical files allow for side-to-to side or front-to-back filing. File cabinets are efficient and they can be ordered in several different colors to accommodate your office decor.  They can also be ordered in many types of wood and used as an accessory to make your office more upscale.
